Why - that’s a question we’ve all asked and been asked too many times in the last year. Why is a sense-making question – so it makes sense (no pun intended) that it’s been on our minds. Much like every business or association, ARA asks the question “why” for everything. Why we do what we do, why we create what we create, why we support our members, and why it’s important for us to serve this industry.  

Last year, the abundance of “whys” caused us to step back and rethink how we approach our training programs and educational opportunities for members. This led us to the creation of the new Box Truck Training. This course provides context for event rental staff and answers the ‘why’ to the importance of their jobs and their safety. This training is unique in many ways. It was created by a team of seven specialized professionals who were guided by ARA members in every step of the process. It’s full of videos and interactions. It’s broken down into 5 digestible modules that allow for stopping and starting. It is the most engaging training ARA has ever made. 

Above all, though, the training walks your staff through the entire rental process and situates them within the bigger picture of your organization. From loading the truck, to daily truck inspection, to customer service, we know that there is so much more to delivery and operations than on-the-road training, so we included it all. After going through this program, your staff will feel confident about how their role impacts your organization and the customer. And they’ll know how to do it in the safest way possible.  

As Director of Education at ARA, I ask why because I appreciate context. Especially when in terms of how my work fits in to the bigger picture of an organization. In fact, 40% of the working population feels this way because we want to feel like we have a purpose at our company. I know that our department develops safety training and resources for our members because we want the elevate the safety of the equipment and event rental industry. I am a piece of that puzzle and having that context motivates me.  

To build a safety culture, you need buy-in from everyone. You need them to feel comfortable to ask why and to know the answer. I’m confident after taking this training your staff will feel empowered to make the right safety choices for themselves and for others.
