Rental Management recently spoke with Jill Holtsman, CERP, managing partner, Hub City Display, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, about her experience and thoughts during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Canada has had a slower recovery from COVID-19 than in the U.S., which has made it tougher for party and event rental companies to begin taking orders for the summer. Due to smaller cash flow, Holtsman discusses ways they’ve saved money this year and made saving more of a focus.
“From when I started working here and taking over, we’ve always had a healthy bank account. We’ve never experienced cash flow problems until now. We had more trucks that we needed. We plated everything. We’ve had licenses on everything. When the money is there, you spend it and we really pulled back. I think I’m really into saving money now. Going forward, even our postage machine, we spent it because we had it. Extra phone lines we haven’t needed in years because most people email now. Going forward we definitely know how to save money,” Holtsman says.
