Rental operators from across Alabama gathered on June 23 to receive the latest guidelines directly from an officer of the Alabama Highway Patrol.
The ARA of Alabama event, hosted at Rental Men in Calera, Ala., included dinner, a facility tour and guest speaker State Trooper Cpl. Beck Stults of the Alabama Highway Patrol and Ret. Quad-Cities Post
Commander.
During his presentation, Cpl. Stults touched on topics that can help equipment rental operators avoid falling victim to costly rental thefts, including:
- Equipment that thieves typically look to exploit.
- How to make your store less attractive for theft.
- How GPS tracking devices can help track and recover equipment.
- Proper tie-down procedures.
The strategies presented, the interaction among rental operators sharing a common purpose and the laid-back atmosphere made for a worthwhile event, says Michael Hamm, owner and operator, Tennessee River Rental, Florence, Ala., who also serves on the ARA of Alabama board of directors.
“It was a very informative roundtable type of discussion and presentation,” Hamm says. “These types of presentations are best for me because they are open for discussion. Everyone in the room spoke some at different parts of the presentation about a variety of topics. It was interesting to learn from a longtime state trooper about some easy, no-cost fixes to make your location more secure.”
