Sean Atlas, president of Atlas Event Group in Shrewsbury, Mass., and John Gallo, Boston-based strategic accounts manager for United Rentals, have stepped up to fill positions on the ARA of Massachusetts board of directors.
Atlas has headed up Atlas Event Group since 2015. The company’s array of services ranges from DJ services, uplighting, dance floor lighting, monograms, photo booths, video DJs, and event rentals, including offer tents, tables, chairs, flooring and linens.
Atlas Event Group caters to weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, nightclubs, school events and more.
Atlas joins his American Rental Association (ARA) state chapter board from a position of knowledge of association services. He is an avid user of ARA educational, risk management and insurance resources, and is a member of ARA’s Young Professional Network.
Gallo brings years of combined rental and financial expertise to the board. Following his college graduation, “my first position was inside sales at Action Equipment Rental, an independent equipment rental firm headquartered in Londonderry, N.H., and its first Massachusetts office in Malden,” he says. “As the company grew to one of the fastest-growing privately owned companies according to Inc. 500, I quickly moved through many positions, including outside sales, branch manager and district manager.”
Following his experience at Action Equipment Rental, Gallo put together the business plan for a startup company called Boston Equipment. “Again, an independent equipment rental company — this one focused on building and civil construction trades in the Boston metropolitan area,” he says.
Further endeavors for Gallo involved work for independent rental companies and for a financial firm to guide an independent through troubling times and into profitability, eventually to be sold to a national entity.
In his current role in the United Rentals organization, for which he was named “2021 Strategic Account Manager of the Year,” Gallo manages a book of business that includes both construction and entertainment partners.
During his career, Gallo has been active in many industry organizations and events. “As an employee of the independents, I was always active in the ARA of Massachusetts, and I attended the national ARA conventions. I’ve also been a member of the ABC [Associated Builders and Contractors] and AGC [Associated General Contractors] as well as the Massachusetts Production Coalition,” he says.
When he was approached by industry peers about joining the ARA of Massachusetts board of directors to lend his experience as an employee of rental companies both independent/local and national, Gallo says he was “flattered and humbled by the opportunity. I believe my experience over many years of seeing the changes that have happened within the rental market and working through many economic cycles may bring insight into navigating through a variety of circumstances in the industry.”
As for his tenure on the board, Gallo plans on starting from a position of advocating for safe and proper usage of rental equipment.
“Having a focus on the proper applications and safe use of equipment has been a tenant throughout my career. As equipment becomes more complicated and available, providing insight to the end user will be invaluable,” he says.
