May. 22, 2022

Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas (HCMA), Newnan, Ga., a subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM), Tokyo, introduced three new excavators during a press event Thursday, May 19, at the Callaway Resort & Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Simon Wilson, vice president sales, HCMA, said the company is the largest manufacturer of excavators in the world. He said the company devotes time listening to customer needs and bringing those needs into its products.

The equipment rental industry is a major part of HCMA’s strategy for future growth, Wilson said.

“We believe that rental is a key business segment in North America, and even in South America,” Wilson said. “It’s very important for us to not only learn and understand, but also to support the rental business. The rental business in North America continues to grow. It is very important that these machines can last and be designed for that rental customer. There is a lot of excitement for the Hitachi brand in North America."

The excavators introduced were:

  • The 50,265-lb. ZX210LC-6 high performance (HP) construction excavator, which includes a 7-in. multi-function LCD monitor to provide a wide range of technical information and enables operators to check the machine’s status and settings at a glance. The machine is equipped with a four-cylinder, net 163.6 hp ISUZU engine. An electronically-controlled common-rail fuel injection system reduces fuel consumption, the company says.
  • The 10,560-lb. ZX50U-5N compact excavator, which offers an independent swing boom and 360-degree rotation. The excavator has a maximum reach of 19 ft. 7 in. and provides a maximum dig depth of 11 ft. 7 in. A backfill blade allows the excavator to fill or grade while an optional all-hydraulic blade angles 25 degrees left or right for more efficient grading and backfilling. An enhanced 3.5-in. LCD monitor is designed to keep the operator informed of information while allowing fingertip control of several functions, including auto-shutdown and power/economy modes.
  • The 5,560 lb. ZX26U-5N, which is in the mini-excavator classification. The 4-ft. 11-in.-wide machine can work in tight spaces and is equipped with tie-down holes on the side frame and blade. The machine features an independent swing boom and 360-degree rotation. The mini excavator has a maximum reach of 15 ft. 2 in. and a maximum dig depth of 8 ft. 6 in.
