Why is the MEWP operator training program important?

Everyone who operates a MEWP at your facility is required to be trained according to federal regulations. ARA created the MEWP Operator Training so you can satisfy OSHA requirements and the new ANSI A92 standards. Completing this training will increase safety and value for your customers.

It’s concise, engaging, and straightforward because it was designed with our members in mind. We understand that working in equipment rental is a demanding job. Taking a few days off to complete training is not usually an option for rental staff. ARA’s MEWP operator training consists of 8-10 hours of online and in-person training, making it an efficient and effective training option for rental employees.

    1. Step one: Purchase the ARA Certified – MEWP Operator course. Log in to RentalU and select the ARA Certified programs button. Find the course you’re looking to purchase (ARA Certified - MEWP Operator course) and complete the checkout process.
    2. Step two: Complete the self-paced online course (classroom portion) in RentalU. Click on the ARA Certified button in RentalU, and then click on the ARA Certified - MEWP Operator course. The online course will take you approximately 4 hours to complete.
    3. Step three: Complete the in-person, hands on training portion (4-5 hours).

    *Do not purchase the course until you’ve registered for an in-person, hands on training. This can be arranged directly through your rental company if you have ARA Certified MEWP trainers on staff. Log in to RentalU, select the ARA Certified programs button. Find the course you’re looking to purchase (ARA Certified - MEWP Train the Trainer OR ARA Certified - MEWP Operator) and complete the checkout process. You do not need a PayPal account to complete the transaction.

    All students must complete the self-paced online course (classroom portion) that is available for purchase through RentalU. The course takes approximately 4 hours to finish and must be completed 48 hours prior to the hands on training. This applies to the MEWP Operator Training and the MEWP Train the Trainer training.

    All students must bring the following:

    • Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE): safety harness and lanyard
    • Safety glasses
    • Close-toed shoes or boots
    • A pen or pencil
    • Driver’s license
    • Dress for anticipated weather conditions since the hands on training will be outside (hat, sunscreen, raincoat, gloves, etc.)
