United Rentals employee wins ‘American Idol’

From operating machinery to a music career

Chayce Beckham, a heavy machinery operator at the Riverside, Calif., branch location of United Rentals, Stamford, Conn., was named the winner during the season 19 finale of “American Idol,” the hit talent search television show on ABC, that aired on May 23.

During his show audition segment Beckham, originally from Apple Valley, Calif., says he tried out for “American Idol” because his parents and family encouraged him.

He has been working at the United Rentals branch for almost three years and says, “We rent out pretty much everything that has to do with construction — forklifts, backhoes, excavators, water trucks. I kind of get to live out every little kid’s dream. I get to play with giant Tonka trucks all day and toys, so it’s a good time.”

Since winning “American Idol,” Beckham has moved to Nashville, Tenn., and posted on Instagram that he has fulfilled one of his other dreams by buying a Pro Team 175 TXW® Tournament Edition bass boat to keep his time occupied when he’s not working or touring.

Beckham also used Instagram to reveal that he will join rock band 3 Doors Down on three of their tour dates starting in September, including stops at the Allegan Country Fair in Allegan, Mich., on Sept. 11; at the Saint Louis Music Park in St. Louis on Sept. 12; and The Rust Belt in East Moline, Ill., on Sept. 20.
