Diving deeper into the ARA Healthcare Solution

A conversation with program partner HUB International

The new American Rental Association (ARA) Healthcare Solution operates as a partnership between ARA, HUB International and Allstate Benefits. Two executives of Chicago-based HUB International — Aaron Matlock, senior vice president, and Adam Kerns, vice president — jointly coordinate their company’s role in the program, and Rental Management spoke with Matlock to answer some frequently asked questions about the offering and to learn more about the services that HUB International and Allstate Benefits provide through the partnership.

Rental Management: Can you describe what HUB International is and the role its representatives played in the development of the ARA Healthcare Solution?

Aaron Matlock: HUB International is an independent agency that worked with ARA to develop a health program for the members. Our ARA team handles everything from the initial quote request and explaining the program to working through any post-implementation issues.

Rental Management: Allstate Benefits is the other party involved in administering the program. What is that organization’s role?

Matlock: Allstate is the insurance company that is providing the health insurance coverage for the ARA program. Their responsibility is to administer the health plan for you and your employees.

Rental Management: What types of insurance are available through the program?

Matlock: Medical, dental and vision insurance. If more ancillary benefits are desired, we have the ability to assist with this as well.

Rental Management: What kinds of information will ARA members need to submit about themselves, their employees or their business in order to receive a quote?

Matlock: For initial quotes, all that is needed is the name of the business; the location; the employee’s date of birth, gender, zip code and how they are covered (i.e., employee only, employee/spouse,  employee/child or family). We would also need the dates of birth and gender of any dependents.

Rental Management: What is the turnaround time for members to receive a quote?

Matlock: Initial quotes, without underwriting, take 48 hours or less right now. After applications are filled out for underwriting to be done, it is taking less than 48 hours to get those rates back.

Rental Management: If the member finds the quote acceptable and wants to proceed from there, what are the next steps?

Matlock: Since the employee applications have all been filled out, the only piece left is employer paperwork and a binder check. A HUB representative will help assist the members through the entire process if needed.

Rental Management: How much money could the ARA Healthcare Solution save a company?

Matlock: It varies, but we have seen 5 percent to 28 percent savings on the groups we have put through full underwriting.

Rental Management: What healthcare network can ARA members who take advantage of the program expect to use?

Matlock: The best part about Allstate is they can offer various networks that fit the entire geographical footprint that encompasses ARA. The most commonly used networks are Aetna and Cigna.

Rental Management: Will members who utilize ARA Insurance for their business be able to coordinate with their ARA Insurance preferred agent on the program?

Matlock: Yes. We have educated all the ARA Insurance preferred agents on the program, and several have sent in requests for quotes.
