ARA Rental Market Metrics™
ARA Rental Market Metrics™ provides equipment rental companies a consistent way of calculating and reporting critical performance measures. It develops industry standards for the definition of a day, original equipment cost (OEC), and for the calculation of time (physical) utilization of equipment, financial (dollar) utilization, fleet age and percentage change in period-over-period rental rates.
Rental Market Monitor™
The American Rental Association (ARA) offers critical rental-specific market information via the Rental Market Monitor™, compiled by respected economic research firm IHS Global Insight. Members use this informaiton to assist in forecasting rental revenue, seeking sales opportunities, identifying market trends and securing financing. The Rental Show
The Rental Show is the only show of its kind dedicated to the equipment rental industry and annually provides its unique combination of equipment from more than 600 exhibitors at the trade show, rental-specific educational seminars and industry networking opportunities.
ARA Insurance, which is solely owned by the American Rental Association, offers rental-specific insurance to general members who qualify. ARA became involved in the insurance business more than 30 years ago when it was determined that the needs of the rental industry were not being met. Because the insurance industry has viewed rental as a high risk, few companies have marketed to those in the rental industry. So, to assist members, ARA Insurance was established with the mission of providing the security of a stable insurance market that provides quality products and services.
The ARA Foundation, a charitable 501(c)3 organization, was established in 1976 as the Rental Equipment Industry Foundation (REIF) with the sole purpose of providing scholarships for promising young students looking to enter the industry. Today, the Foundation continues its work to strengthen the industry and guide it into the future with these initiatives: a scholarship program, a business consultation program called the Rental Executive Advisory Program or REAP, the rental disaster relief program and the new international rental exchange program. With its mission to create educational opportunities, build relationships and aid the industry, the ARA Foundation serves as the heart of the rental industry.
RENTAL MANAGEMENT, the award winning official magazine of the American Rental Association, serves rental professionals who own, manage or serve equipment rental companies. RENTAL MANAGEMENT is the only publication in the world to cover all market segments of the equipment rental industry — heavy construction, light construction/general tool, and party and event equipment rental and currently reaches more than 17,000 subscribers worldwide.
Rental Pulse, an e-newsletter service of RENTAL MANAGEMENT and the American Rental Association, provides the latest news on the rental industry each week. Rental Pulse includes industry updates, financial news, “claim of the week” information from ARA Insurance Services, association information, classified ads and more.
ARA promotes renting to millions of people each year through the national advertising campaign. Every commercial, print ad and online message sends the reader or viewer to RentalHQ.com, the world’s largest, most comprehensive rental store locator, to find ARA member rental stores nearest them.
The Global Rental Alliance
The American Rental Association and peer rental associations initiated the formation of the Global Rental Alliance in 2003 as a way increase the profile of equipment rental worldwide and to collectively increase membership value to the members of the respective organization.
One of ARA’s strategic goals is to be the leading source and resource of rental industry information. To that end, ARA and RENTAL MANAGEMENT magazine have retained IHS Global Insight, a respected economic forecasting firm, to conduct annual detailed studies of the trends, drivers and opportunities shaping the course of the rental industry today and in the future. ARA offers a paid online subscription to members, called Rental Market Monitor™. This service presents the State of the Equipment Rental Industry Outlook 2011-2015. It serves as a critical business management tool that complements ARA’s other business resources.
ARA Government Affairs
ARA’s Washington, D.C., office focuses on legislation and regulatory issues that affect the rental industry. In addition, ARA provides a state legislative and regulatory tracking service as well as lobbying assistance to help state and local associations keep abreast of legislative and regulatory activity in their states. More information about state issues.
ARA’s employee-recruitment initiative highlights many great career opportunities available in the equipment rental industry. The Web site includes a job board and rental-specific brochures highlighting career opportunities in the industry.
