Sunday education offers something for everyone

Boosting your knowledge

Rental operators often express the importance of “working on your business, not in your business.” The full day of education on Sunday, Feb. 12, at The ARA Show™ is the opportunity to do just that. Throughout the day attendees can choose to attend 16 different rental-specific sessions organized into four tracks:

  • Learn and Lead Track
  • Connect and Collaborate Track
  • Empower and Engage Track
  • Plan and Strategize Track

 

The schedule for Feb. 12 is as follows:

 

Learn and Lead Track

8:30-9:45 a.m.

“Who Says Leadership and Laughter Can’t Mix?” presented by Tim Gard.

This session will focus on using humor that enhances workplace culture while steering clear of any negative or controversial humor that may have detrimental effects.

10-11:15 a.m.

“Leading in a Lean Environment,” presented by Mark Graban.

Learn how lean management methods can help you engage employees and create sustainable continuous improvement.

1:15-2:30 p.m.

“What You Need to Learn from Chick-fil-A’s Remarkable Leadership Tactics,” presented by Arthur Greeno.

Some make leadership look effortless but becoming an effective leader can be a long and difficult journey. This session will focus on how a tremendously successful Chick-fil-A leadership model can be applied to your rental business or role.

2:45-4 p.m.

“TOPGUN Success and Fighter Pilot Precision for Leaders,” presented by Ed Rush.

Fighter pilots have no room for errors, and neither do you in your business. Discover how to accomplish more in less time with less waste from a 13-year Marine Corps fighter pilot. Learn three key strategies to achieve speed and success as a leader and dramatically improve your communication skills.


Connect and Collaborate Track

8:30-9:45 a.m.

“Connect to the Workplace and Life Through F.U.N.,” presented by Paul Long.

This session uses the “FUNdamentals” of Paul’s F.U.N. acronym to teach you how to create a culture that empowers employees to create more fun.

10-11:15 a.m.

“Unconscious Bias Panel: Developing an Inclusive Workplace Culture,” presented by Kerrigan Ambers; Carol Fontanez; Jared Maderis, CERP; Alberto Pianelli; and Brian Wells.

This panel features rental industry members who will have an open dialogue about unconscious bias and how it impacts our decision making in the workplace.

1:15-2:30 p.m.

“Drop Stress and Increase Collaboration with the ‘Focus Secret,’” presented by Will Bowen.

A focused and engaged team is more loyal, has less absenteeism and is way more successful than a stressed team. This session will introduce you to the “Focus Secret.” Gain the tools to make simple and powerful shifts that can decrease stress and improve workplace harmony, productivity and morale.

2:45-4 p.m.

“Above the Line: Rising Up to the Challenges of Today’s Workplace,” presented by Natalie Johnson.

Today’s work world is complex, highly demanding and full of emotional triggers that can cause us to “armor up” and lead with ego. This can lead to conflict, resentment and burnout. Learn how to overcome these challenges to create an engaging and effective team environment.


Empower and Engage Track

8:30-9:45 a.m.

“Be the One: How Great Leaders Bring Out the Best in Others,” presented by Ted Ma.

The best leaders also are great mentors who cause us to think and act differently. Based on the groundbreaking national research study of more than 1,000 professionals, this highly interactive program reveals a practical process to unlock the potential in others. Participants will be challenged to rethink their role as leaders, change how they interact with their team and learn how to bring out the best in the people around them.

10-11:15 a.m.

“Workforce Wellbeing: Managing Emotional Wellness to Enhance Self, Team and Organizational Resilience,” presented by Dr. Nicole Lipkin.

Learn how to fine-tune the resilience muscle in order to effectively manage the emotional wellbeing of your teams, culture and company.

1:15-2:30 p.m.

“How to Create Happy, Motivated and Engaged Employees,” presented by Lisa Walden.

This session will shed light on strategies that matter most for the current and future workforce so you can create happy, motivated and engaged employees.

2:45-4 p.m.

“How to Recruit and Retain Gen Z and Millennials,” presented by Phil Gwoke.

Learn best practices to attract and keep these generations in your workforce.


Plan and Strategize Track

8:30-9:45 a.m.

“Assuring the Successful Continuation of Your Business,” presented by Leon and Terrance Resnick.

This session will share invaluable information and resources to help you protect and maintain your business well into the future, including advice and information to develop a successful business succession plan.

10-11:15 a.m.

“How to Successfully Navigate Mergers and Acquisitions,” presented by James Waite, Esq.

Learn about the merger and acquisition process so you can avoid common issues and mistakes. Plus, gain information on the legal requirements and challenges that come with mergers and acquisitions.

1:15-2:30 p.m.

“Preparing to Sell Your Business,” presented by Roman Basi.

This session will walk you through the steps to take when selling your rental business so you can maximize value and create the best possible outcome.

2:45-4 p.m.

“Succession Planning Panel: Real Rental Stories,” presented by Mark Clawson, Robert Pedersen and Cyndi Shifrel, CERP.

Rental company owners who have handled succession planning successfully will share their stories related to traditional generational transfer, strategic acquisitions and selling the business.

The full day of education is included as part of full registration for The ARA Show, which also includes admission to three days of the trade show and the keynote session.
