ARA Certified, the American Rental Association’s (ARA) series of landmark industry certification programs, is now available. Included among the program offerings is essential training for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) on the trainer side.
The ARA Certified MEWP Train-the-Trainer course qualifies graduates to train operators with instruction that satisfies OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) A92 standards.
The course includes online self-guided training through RentalU — ARA’s online education platform. Then, students are required to complete a four- to five-hour live, hands-on training session conducted by a certified master trainer.
The hands-on sessions are being presented by ARA state chapters and, in areas without an active state chapter, by an ARA regional director at an engaged member business’s location. On Sept. 14, ARA Region Six director Doug Haas, president and CEO, Crown Rental, Burnsville, Minn., presented the first live ARA Certified MEWP Train-the-Trainer event in Region Six at Rushmore Equipment in Blackhawk, S.D.
“It was a very informative session,” Haas says. “The trainer [Josh Nickell, ARA vice president, equipment segment] was very good at relating what to look for and using real-life examples to relate why certain things are important. We learned how doing the little things can lower our liability tenfold and that documentation is key.”
