Spring education event offered MEWP training and ax-throwing fun

At the ARA of Idaho spring education event on April 13-14, participants received telehandler and mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training from an industry expert and balanced out the important business with some ax-chucking fun.

On the professional education side, Scott Owyen, safety trainer with Genie, A Terex Brand, delivered classroom and hands-on training that applies to anyone who operates scissor lifts, boom lifts, manual lifts and various types of trailer-mounted lift devices. Attendees who successfully completed the trainings received a trainer/operator card and certificate of completion.

Then, what was originally planned as a golf outing social at Blue Lakes Country Club in Jerome, Idaho, turned into an indoor ax-throwing party at the Twin Falls Bearded Axe venue due to poor weather conditions.

Despite the unexpected pivot on the social outing side, the overall event was judged a success by its organizers.

“The training went exceptionally well,” says Sam Castillo, who handles outside sales for Boise, Idaho-based Tates Rents, and serves as ARA of Idaho treasurer. “We had a few new faces and some ‘legends’ come through. On behalf of our ARA of Idaho board, I want to give a shout out to TLC Rentals in Wendell, Idaho, and Pro Rentals in Twin Falls for the use of the equipment. Our social was quite fun. In lieu of not golfing, we still made the best of it and had a blast throwing axes.”
