Powering revenue with generators

Oct. 25, 2020

Generators are a popular item that can be found in rental businesses across all three segments of the industry — construction, general tool, and party and event. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from small portable gas-powered units to semi-trailer sized diesel-powered units. Generators often are rented during natural disasters when power has been lost or are rented to power other rental equipment — whether for a DIY project; a large long-term construction project; or an event with lights, audio and catering equipment.

“The ability to provide the equipment and to provide the power source for that equipment makes having generators a key asset in all rental fleets,” says Dani Planto, marketing manager, Makinex Construction Products, Torrance, Calif.

Generators offer numerous power options which can lead to questions like which types of generators should you carry in your rental inventory? What can be done to make a generator last longer? How does a rental employee properly size a generator to fit a customer’s need?

Find answers to these questions in a special report on generators in the October issue of Rental Management magazine.
